LIFELONG LEARNING

As Reform Jews we value excellence in our secular learning and at Makom Solel Lakeside we also value excellence in the study of Torah. Makom Solel Lakeside offers a variety of regular opportunities for adult learners: Weekly Saturday morning Torah study led by either Rabbis or Educators on Saturday at 9:15 AM, adult Be Mitzvah classes for Hebrew school drop-outs as well as for those who decide this is the time to achieve the goal of reading Torah, Adult Enrichment - weekly Sunday morning speaker session from 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Film Group, Book Groups, classes taught by our clergy and educators during the week and Social Action Projects & Activities!

Vanessa M. Ehrlich, RJE, is our Director of Lifelong Learning. Vanessa believes that Jewish education is a lifetime journey and, for that reason, manages a vibrant Adult Education program, enriched significantly by her deep knowledge of contemporary issues in faith and religion. She teaches classes, conducts 4 different book groups and coordinates our Adult education offerings. Vanessa holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters of Jewish Education from Spertus College.

“Rabbi Tarfon and the elders were once reclining in the upper story of Nithza’s house in Lydda, when this question was raised before them: Is study greater, or practice?  Rabbi Tarfon answered saying: Practice is greater. Rabbi Akiva answered: Study is greater, for it leads to practice.  Then they all said:  Study is greater because it leads to action” (Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Kiddushin 40b).
