B'nai Mitzvah
B'nai Mitzvah
Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a meaningful milestone in the life of a Jewish student. Our B’nai Mitzvah services are filled with music as the student leads most of the service. A highlight is the young person’s address to the congregation, based upon his or her on understanding of the Torah text. Family members are also invited to participate. We are committed to the full inclusion of non-Jewish parents and other family members in the service.
While we regard Bar/Bat Mitzvah as an important milestone in a young person’s religious education, it is not the conclusion. Students are expected to continue in our Lev Learning (religious school) program through the capstone of Confirmation (10th grade).

Monday, Dec 9th 11:00a to 12:00p
A five-session class led by co-founder of Common Ground, Jim Kenney. Where are your roots? Author Colin Woodard argues that they almost certainly link you to one of eleven distinct “nation-states” whose cultural dynamics inform everything from voting patterns, to social values, to the role of government. See if this list makes you want to learn more: Yankeedom, New Netherlands, the Midlands, Tidewater, Greater Appalachia, Deep South, El Norte, the Left Coast, the Far West, New France, and First Nation. We’ll explore each one and see why Woodard’s thesis has attracted adherents from both sides of the U.S. political spectrum. Members: $75 for 5 sessions Non-Members: $85 for 5 sessions For more information, please contact Vanessa Ehrlich at Vehrlich@mymakom.org or (847) 533-3555 -
